Minister’s Guidelines and Rules open for public comment
8 March 2017
The Minister's Guidelines and Rules (MGR) is the key instrument that will mandate how local planning schemes and other local planning instruments are made (or changed).
Under the current planning legislation, there are separate guidelines and documents covering the making of various types of local plans and designations for infrastructure, so the new MGR incorporates all those processes into one central document, which will assist practitioners in their daily work (the primary users of the document).
A key driver of the new planning system is to enhance the community’s involvement in the plan making process. This is reflected in the draft MGR with additional time for Queenslanders to get involved in local planning matters and the requirement for local government to demonstrate contemporary and authentic community engagement.
This new statutory instrument is now open for public comment from Wednesday 8 March 2017 and will close on Tuesday 9 May 2017. Learn more about the draft MGR.
